Hereford Musical Theatre Company Adult Company

HMTC’s adult company is a thriving, diverse and inclusive amateur society. There is no membership audition and we welcome anyone with enthusiasm and dedication. We encourage involvement from anyone, regardless of previous experience, ability and background, and help everyone to flourish. HMTC strives to foster teamwork and discipline in an engaging and stimulating social atmosphere.

We have active and experienced members well into their 80s and younger ones from age 16 who have completed their year eleven secondary education.

Our professional musical director nurtures members of any level of ability to ensure HMTC productions are of the highest quality. Our productions always have a live musical accompaniment.

Currently HMTC’s  adult company stage one show or concert at Tomkins Theatre annually in spring/early summer and one larger production at The Courtyard theatre in November. There is also a Christmas concert. Recent spring productions have included ‘Calendar Girls’, ‘All Shook Up’, ‘Made in Dagenham’ and our summer ‘Memory Lane’ showcase. Autumn musicals have included ‘Oliver’, ‘Sister Act’, ‘The Producers’, ‘Kipps – Half a Sixpence’, ‘The Addams Family’, ‘Elf’ and ‘The Full Monty’.

Our core rehearsal night is Tuesdays, from 7.30pm to 10.00pm at Tomkins Theatre. Rehearsal schedules inform members about additional nights, which depend on each production team's preferences.

We believe that every one of our member’s voices matters, and their opinion is essential to the company’s growth. Members are welcome to put themselves forward for the committee so they can develop their own and others’ ideas. Our March AGM discusses and votes on motions submitted, to heed everyone’s views. We encourage volunteers for directing, choreography and production roles.

Since 1898, HMTC and its forerunners have kept local performing arts alive, fostering physical and mental benefits for the community.

Membership costs: £60 per calendar year or £25 for those under the age of 25. There is also a show levy of around £30 and returnable script/score hire fee for major productions

Hereford Musical Theatre Company Youth Group

Our aim is to create an environment where young people feel comfortable, have fun and grow in confidence whilst having the opportunity to regularly perform on stage. Members have the opportunity to perform in at least one musical and a show-case/concert each year.

The company meets weekly to develop acting, singing, movement and dance skills through different activities and performances. The company’s most recent productions include Imaginary, Matilda jr, The Wizard of Oz Jr, Annie Jr, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as well as showcases and Christmas shows.

Where there is a requirement for children to be in the cast, there may be opportunities for members to take part in our adult productions. Members of the Youth Group will be given priority at any auditions for these shows. Children from the youth group have performed in Made In Dagenham, The Full Monty, Elf, Annie, Oliver and The Wizard of Oz.

We meet on Sundays from 2-4pm although, when we are in full rehearsals for a show, times can increase before and after this. Performances and dress rehearsals will be during evenings. Prior to any show, a full list of the commitment required will be provided.

There are no auditions to join the company, we welcome those young people between the ages of 8 and 16 who have an interest in acting / singing / dancing and want to ‘give it a go’. Dedication, enthusiasm, commitment and being a team player are the main ethos of the company.

Every member is automatically eligible to take part in the ensemble of any Youth Group show we perform. Those wishing to be considered for a principal or cameo role are asked to audition in front of the production team. Our show cases give every member an opportunity to shine.
